AUTOBIOGRAPHY – DR DANIEL JAMES NIGHTINGALE

Dr Dan Nightingale is a Dementia Consultant and Consultant Psychotherapist and is Head of Dementia Services at The Priory Group. He is well known throughout the field of dementia care. He is Head of the Faculty of Dementia at The National College Hypnosis and Psychotherapy and specialist tutor at the National College. He was one of the Consultants during the All Party Political Group Inquiry into the use of antipsychotic medicines in nursing and care homes at Westminster and teaches 1st year Doctoral Psychology students at the University of Liverpool; Jointly Heads the Dementia Strategy Team at The Priory Group alongside Sharon Butler; runs a Saturday clinic in Nottingham and is occasionally asked to speak on radio and has been known to do the odd phone-in on dementia! In addition, he collaborates with Dr Simon Duff on research into the use of hypnosis for people living with dementia. This work has led to 3 publications, two in Europe and 1 in America. This work has been recognised around the world and been broadcast on the World Service. His recent achievements include the publication of The Nightingale Model of Enriched Care, which is the foundations upon which the dementia strategy at The Priory Group is built upon; release of a training CD called My Dreams of Being and has recently completed a Pilot Project on the use of Montessori in Dementia Care. This has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Dementia Care (date of publication to be confirmed). In 2009 he was a Finalist in the Dementia UK Awards and received a placing for Outstanding Contribution to the Field of Dementia.
His philosophy is: One cannot prevent the onset of maturing years. However, one can ensure it is great fun by ageing as disgracefully as possible!
